Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Maryland’s Eastern Shore With 60 MPH Wind Gusts and Hail Threat Until Noon

CHESTERTOWN, MARYLAND — Residents across Maryland’s Eastern Shore are being urged to stay indoors as a strong severe thunderstorm moves through the region Wednesday morning, bringing damaging wind gusts, hail, lightning, and heavy rainfall.

The Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect until Noon for communities including Chestertown, Galena, Centreville, Goldsboro, and nearby areas as the storm pushes east toward Delaware.

Radar imagery captured late Wednesday morning showed an intense thunderstorm core moving steadily across the Eastern Shore. The storm displayed strong red and yellow radar returns, signaling heavy rain and dangerous weather conditions developing along its path.

Forecasters warned that wind gusts could exceed 60 mph, creating the potential for downed trees, scattered power outages, and hazardous travel conditions. Residents are also being warned about the possibility of hail, which could damage vehicles, roofs, and outdoor property.

Frequent lightning has been reported within the storm system as it tracks eastward toward Smyrna and Dover. Drivers traveling through the region are advised to delay travel until the storm passes and roads become safer.

Heavy rainfall accompanying the storm may also lead to brief flooding in low-lying or poor drainage areas, especially where rain falls repeatedly over the same locations.

Officials recommend that residents remain indoors, avoid windows, and stay away from outdoor activities until the warning expires. People in the storm’s projected path should prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions as the thunderstorm continues moving east across the region.

Conditions are expected to improve gradually after Noon once the storm exits the area.
