POST FALLS, Idaho — A late-night stop at a Post Falls gas station ended in handcuffs for two Washington women after Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies uncovered a significant drug stash inside their vehicle.
The incident took place around 2 a.m. on June 8, when deputies approached a parked vehicle near the intersection of West Riverbend Avenue and West Pointe Parkway.
What Deputies Found
Officers immediately spotted illegal drugs and paraphernalia in plain view — giving them probable cause to conduct a full vehicle search.
What they found inside was staggering:
- Approximately 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine, hidden inside a bag labeled “Smelly Proof”
- Marijuana scattered throughout the vehicle
- Multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia
Who Was Arrested
Laurie J. Wainwright, 65, of Washougal, Washington, faces the most serious charges:
- Trafficking methamphetamine
- Possession of marijuana
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
Jeannie L. Sanders, 66, also of Washougal, Washington, was charged with:
- Possession of methamphetamine
- Possession of marijuana
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
Why This Case Stands Out
1.5 pounds of methamphetamine is a trafficking-level quantity — far beyond personal use. The “Smelly Proof” bag, commonly marketed to mask odors, did little to help the women avoid arrest.
Both women are from Washougal, Washington, raising questions about whether the drugs were being transported across state lines.
The case remains under investigation by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
