Four teenagers accused of an aggravated robbery in Sugar Land are back in police custody after briefly escaping from a local jail, according to the Sugar Land Police Department.
Authorities said the suspects — Edmound Guillory, 19; Devontae Simon, 18; and two 17-year-olds, Desean Dillard and Clayton Johnson — were originally arrested in connection with a violent robbery at a CVS store early Sunday morning.
Robbery at CVS Led to Initial Arrests
Police reported that the incident occurred just before 2 a.m. at the CVS located at 1410 Crabb River Road. Investigators said the group assaulted a store clerk during the robbery and fled the scene with a bag of cash.
Following the robbery, officers with the Houston Police Department assisted Sugar Land police in pursuing the suspects. The teens were eventually apprehended and taken into custody without further incident.
Escape From Sugar Land Jail
According to police, the situation escalated hours later while the suspects were being held at the Sugar Land jail. At approximately 4:50 a.m., an SLPD jailer entered a cell to check on one of the teens. Officials said one suspect assaulted the jailer during the check, allowing all four detainees to escape from the holding area.
The injured jailer was transported to a hospital for treatment. Police later confirmed that he is in stable condition.
Large-Scale Search Ends With Recapture
A search involving multiple law enforcement agencies was launched immediately after the escape. Authorities said the four suspects were located later that evening at the First Colony Church of Christ.
Police took all four individuals back into custody at approximately 6:20 p.m. Sunday without further injuries reported.
Additional Charges Expected
Officials confirmed that the suspects will be transferred to the Fort Bend County Jail, where they are expected to face multiple additional charges. These include escape from custody, assault, and potentially attempted murder related to the attack on the jailer.
The Sugar Land Police Department said the investigation remains active, and more details regarding formal charges and court proceedings are expected to be released in the coming days.
Authorities emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public and thanked residents for their cooperation during the manhunt.
