20-Year-Old Woman Killed, Two Others Wounded in Targeted West Philadelphia Shooting

A quiet Tuesday evening in West Philadelphia turned tragic when a 20-year-old woman lost her life in a shooting that police believe was targeted, leaving two others injured and a community shaken.

Officers responded around 6:20 p.m. to reports of gunfire near 60th and Market streets. When they arrived, they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds. The young woman, who had just purchased food and was walking alone, was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after.

A 55-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man were also struck by gunfire. Both survived and are currently listed in stable condition.

Investigators say surveillance footage shows a small dark SUV pulling up moments before the attack. Three masked individuals exited the vehicle and opened fire directly at the victim. Police described the shooting as deliberate, noting that one suspect approached the woman and fired at close range while she was already on the ground.

Authorities recovered 27 shell casings from the scene, indicating that multiple weapons were used. Police believe the two surviving victims were not the intended targets and may have been hit unintentionally.

The suspected vehicle was later found abandoned, and investigators are reviewing nearby surveillance footage to track the suspects’ movements. Detectives are also working to understand the motive by learning more about the victim’s background and recent activities.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing as police continue searching for those responsible.
