Suspect Still at Large After Deadly Shooting at Natomas High School

A deadly shooting at Natomas High School has left a community shaken, as authorities continue searching for the suspect late into Friday.

According to Sacramento Police Department, officers responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire on campus. The suspect, identified as a current student at the school, fled the scene and remains at large. No arrests have been made so far.

School officials confirmed that the victim, a former Natomas High student now enrolled at another local school, died from the incident. Authorities believe the victim was intentionally targeted, calling it an isolated act rather than a broader threat.

The shooting reportedly occurred after school dismissal, but the campus was immediately placed on lockdown as a precaution. Nearby areas, including residential complexes, saw a heavy law enforcement presence as officers searched for the suspect.

Local leaders expressed grief and concern. Karina Talamantes called the incident heartbreaking, extending condolences to students, families, and staff affected by the tragedy.

District officials have since activated crisis response teams, including counselors and psychologists, to support students coping with the trauma. Increased security measures are also being implemented across campuses.

Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward as the investigation remains active. The incident has once again raised urgent concerns around school safety and youth violence within communities.
