Poughkeepsie Drug Bust: Cocaine Seized, Suspect Arrested at Harriet Tubman Apartments

Poughkeepsie, NY — A coordinated drug enforcement operation led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man and the seizure of crack cocaine at a city housing complex, officials confirmed.

According to the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force, Justin M. James was taken into custody on Thursday, April 9, following an ongoing investigation into alleged narcotics sales in the Poughkeepsie and Pleasant Valley areas.

Authorities said investigators had been tracking James for suspected drug distribution activity and conducted multiple controlled purchases over time. These operations helped build the case that ultimately led to his arrest.

In the early morning hours, task force agents—assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Recovery Unit—executed an arrest at the Harriet Tubman Apartment Complex. A subsequent search of the residence resulted in the discovery of multiple packages of crack cocaine, officials reported.

James now faces serious charges, including third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony, and fourth-degree possession, a class C felony. Officials noted that additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.

He was later arraigned in City of Poughkeepsie Court and released under supervision, in accordance with New York State law.

District Attorney Anthony P. Parisi stated that the arrest highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug distribution across the county.

The investigation remains active, and authorities encourage anyone with relevant information to contact the Drug Task Force tip line.
