A deeply disturbing incident in Monroe County has left a community in shock after a man allegedly set fire to his own home, killing three vulnerable women, including his 74-year-old grandmother.
According to authorities, Braydon Blake has been arrested and charged with murder and arson following the tragic fire near Bloomington. Emergency calls began pouring in shortly after 2:30 a.m. on January 18, reporting flames engulfing a residence with people trapped inside.
When deputies and fire crews arrived, the home was already ablaze, and a vehicle was found crashed into the garage, adding to the chaos. Two individuals managed to escape, but both suffered severe burns. One of them, 53-year-old Paula Anderson, later died from her injuries.
Inside the home, responders discovered the bodies of 74-year-old Mary Blake and 33-year-old Kristine Rowan, who was bedridden due to cerebral palsy. Officials say all three victims were particularly vulnerable, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking.
Blake was later found injured in a nearby wooded area and hospitalized. After a delay in coordination following his discharge, law enforcement located and arrested him with assistance from state police and U.S. Marshals.
Investigators are exploring a possible motive linked to prior allegations, though details remain under review. Blake is currently being held without bond as the case moves forward.
