Angelina County, Texas — A disturbing case has emerged from East Texas where a 33-year-old woman has been arrested after authorities say she dug up the grave of her own newborn daughter and moved the remains to an abandoned property.
According to the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a disturbed grave at Davis Memorial Gardens in the Cedar Grove area. When officials arrived, they discovered that a newborn’s burial site had been tampered with, and both the infant’s remains and burial container were missing.
During the investigation, authorities identified the child’s mother, Tamisha Cheyniece Drake, as the primary suspect. Deputies say she later admitted to digging up the grave. The child, who reportedly died in February shortly after birth, had been laid to rest at the cemetery.
Officials stated that Drake directed investigators to the location where she had placed the remains — the driveway of an unoccupied residence. The infant was found still inside the burial container.
Drake has been charged with abuse of a corpse, a state jail felony under Texas law. The charge carries a possible sentence ranging from 180 days to two years in jail.
Jail records confirm that Drake remains in custody at Angelina County Jail. Authorities have not yet released details regarding a court date, and the investigation is ongoing.
The case has raised serious concerns within the local community, with officials continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
