A late-night armed robbery in Phoenix sent police on a high-speed chase down Interstate 10 early Sunday morning, ending in a crash in Buckeye that jolted an entire neighborhood awake.
What Happened: Just after 1:30 a.m. on April 26, Phoenix Police responded to reports of an armed robbery near 39th Street and Maryland Avenue. Several juveniles armed with guns had stolen property and fled in a vehicle. When officers attempted to stop the car, the driver refused and sped onto westbound I-10, triggering a full pursuit with assistance from DPS troopers.
The Chase Ends in Buckeye: The suspects exited the highway at Watson Road before crashing into a parked car in Buckeye. All occupants immediately fled the scene on foot. Officers flooded the neighborhood, going door to door and searching backyards for the suspects. A police helicopter circled overhead, broadcasting warnings over its PA system.
Neighbors React: Residents described being jolted awake in the middle of the night by the sound of helicopters and police vehicles lining both sides of their street. Some say officers knocked on their doors asking permission to search their backyards, where some suspects were believed to be hiding.
