Flagstaff residents waking up this morning will find frost on windshields and near-freezing temperatures — but a warm afternoon is just hours away.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in Flagstaff will start between 30° and 32° early this morning before climbing to around 64° by this afternoon. That is a swing of more than 30 degrees within a single day.
When Is the Dangerous Window?
The most important time to be careful is between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. During this window, frost is creating slick spots on roads — especially on bridges and shaded sections of I-40 and Route 89. Neighborhoods including Doney Park, Kachina Village, and downtown Flagstaff may see patchy frost.
Drivers should allow extra braking distance until temperatures rise above freezing.
Conditions Improve Fast
By late morning, sunlight will dry roads quickly and visibility will remain clear. However, the sharp temperature swing means you will need layers in the morning and lighter clothing by afternoon.
A slight chance of sprinkles develops after 2 p.m., but impacts remain minimal.
Looking Ahead This Weekend
Saturday and Sunday bring highs in the mid to upper 60s. Sunday afternoon carries a small chance of thunderstorms that could bring gusty winds along I-17.
Next week trends cooler, with highs dropping toward the upper 50s by Tuesday and increasing chances for showers.
Stay weather-aware and give yourself extra time on the roads this morning, Flagstaff.
