Alabama Dad Charged With Manslaughter — Two Months After Son's Girlfriend's Death Was Called an Accident

An Alabama father is now facing a manslaughter charge — and the case just took a dramatic turn.

Jeffrey Scott Towers, 54, of Trussville, Alabama, was charged with manslaughter two months after the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Whitney Robeson — his son’s girlfriend.

What Happened That Night

On March 7, Trussville Police responded to a shooting at a home around 9:30 p.m. Officers found Robeson with a gunshot wound. She was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

At the time, the Jefferson County Coroner ruled the shooting accidental.

Then Everything Changed

On May 11, police announced Towers would be held responsible for Robeson’s death.

Court documents allege that Towers “recklessly caused the death” of Robeson by shooting her with a firearm — leading to the manslaughter charge.

He was booked into Jefferson County Jail and later released after posting a $30,000 bond.

Who Was Whitney Robeson?

Robeson, 22, was a Virginia native and a proud Auburn University graduate, having earned her degree in interior design in May 2025 — the same month charges were filed.

She was dating Towers’ son at the time of her death.

What the Defense Says

Towers’ attorney, Johnny Amari, released a statement saying his client has no criminal history and has been a “productive and upstanding citizen” his entire life.

“We know that the facts will show that Mr. Towers is not guilty of these charges,” Amari said.

What’s Next

Towers’ next court date has not yet been announced. The case continues to develop.
