Both teens were transported to a nearby hospital and are currently listed in stable condition.

Crime Numbers in Southeast Baltimore Are Rising

The shooting adds to a troubling picture of crime in the Southeast region of Baltimore City.

So far in 2026, there have been 2,766 crimes reported in the area.

At this same point last year, only 44 crimes had been reported — a dramatic increase by comparison.

Shoplifting leads all crime categories in the district, with 430 incidents recorded so far this year. Larceny from auto is second, with 376 reports logged through 2026, according to Baltimore City’s Public Crime Map.

City Just Launched a Summer Youth Safety Plan

The shooting happened just days after Baltimore City leaders unveiled a new summer youth engagement strategy aimed at keeping young people safe and off the streets.

“As always, our goal this summer is to keep our young people safe, connected, and engaged by combining non-traditional curfew engagement with programming directly tailored to their interests,” Mayor Scott said. “This summer, we’ll be ‘In the Mix in ’26’ with even more opportunities for our young people to make the most out of their summer break and stay safe.”

Whether that program will reach teens in Southeast Baltimore remains to be seen — but Friday’s shooting is a reminder of the urgency behind it.
