A 22-year-old allegedly drove drunk and high — killing a friend — then told police his dead friend was behind the wheel.
A young man from Washington state is facing serious criminal charges after a morning crash that killed one person and left three others hurt — and police say he made it worse by trying to shift the blame onto the victim.
Salom Batlok, 22, has been charged with one count of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault following the May 8 crash near W. Airport Drive and S. Spotted Road in Spokane.
What Happened That Night
According to prosecutors, the night before the crash Batlok and his friends bought alcohol after a basketball game. The group split a 24-pack of Corona. Batlok admitted to drinking about four cans plus an additional large beer — enough to feel, in his own words, “gone.”
He also admitted to using a THC vape pen throughout the night.
The Crash
Around 7:30 a.m., Batlok’s BMW slammed into a pole. Prosecutors say he never hit the brakes or attempted to swerve. His friend, 21-year-old Dewayne Aiseia, was killed. Two others — a 19-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man — suffered broken teeth and leg injuries.
Officers found multiple open alcohol containers inside the vehicle, and Batlok’s clothes reportedly smelled of alcohol.
The Lie That Didn’t Hold Up
From his hospital bed, Batlok told investigators he had handed the keys to Aiseia before the crash. But detectives showed him a photo — allegedly placing Batlok in the driver’s seat. He then admitted the truth and reportedly became remorseful.
What Happens Next
A judge set Batlok’s bond at $250,000. He remains in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 22.
