BOSTON, Massachusetts — A night on the water turned deadly near one of the country’s busiest airports Wednesday night, after a small boat crashed into rocks off a runway pier at Boston Logan International Airport.
One person is dead and three others are injured following the late-night crash.
Massachusetts State Police, Boston EMS, and Massachusetts Port Authority Fire all rushed to the scene, along with several other agencies.
Rescue Teams Faced Dangerous Conditions
Pulling survivors from the water was not easy.
Boston EMS described conditions as “difficult” — the shoreline was dark and the rocks were slippery, making every step of the rescue operation dangerous for first responders.
Despite the challenges, all four people on board were pulled from the rocks and transported to a nearby hospital.
One Person Has Died
Shortly after the rescue, Boston EMS reported that one of the four had suffered critical injuries.
Massachusetts State Police later confirmed the worst — that person did not survive.
The identities of those involved have not yet been released.
What Caused the Crash Is Still Unknown
Investigators have not yet said what led the boat to strike the rocks near the pier off runway R4.
Massachusetts State Police confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.
No further details about the victims or the boat have been made public at this time.
This is a developing story. Updates will be added as new information becomes available.
