Two firefighters in Philadelphia are recovering in the hospital after being injured while battling a house fire in the city’s Kensington neighborhood late Saturday night, April 4.
According to the firefighters’ union, the injured members were part of Engine 50 and responded to a dwelling fire on the 500 block of Westmoreland Street in North Philadelphia. Both suffered burn injuries and remain hospitalized, with colleagues and the community hoping for their recovery.
Witnesses described the intensity of the situation. A nearby resident, Brother Lewis, said he saw firefighters being pulled out of the burning home just minutes after entering. The quick response highlighted the dangerous conditions inside the structure.
Lewis expressed deep respect for the firefighters, emphasizing the risks they take daily. He also shared a personal connection, saying the same fire station had previously saved his son during another emergency. His words reflected a broader sense of gratitude felt throughout the neighborhood.
By Sunday morning, the damage to the rowhome was clearly visible, with much of the interior severely burned. Debris, including shattered glass, remained scattered at the scene even a day later.
Officials have not yet released the identities of the injured firefighters, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities also confirmed that no civilians were injured in the incident.
