GREENVILLE, Mich. — A 26-year-old man died Tuesday morning following a tragic industrial accident at a steel facility in Greenville, according to authorities.
Michigan State Police said troopers from the Lakeview Post were dispatched to Greenville Steel at approximately 11:45 a.m. after receiving a report of an unresponsive man near a rollback flatbed truck.
The victim was identified as Daniel Evans, 26. Investigators said Evans and another man were in the process of delivering a scrapped forklift to the site. During the unloading process, the flatbed reportedly encountered resistance while being returned to its original position.
Preliminary findings indicate Evans became trapped between the flatbed and the cab of the truck. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
State police said the truck involved in the incident was owned by J&A Towing of Belding. Authorities clarified that Greenville Steel personnel were not involved in unloading the equipment at the time of the accident.
The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is conducting a formal investigation alongside state police to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the fatal incident. Officials said the investigation will focus on equipment operation, safety procedures, and whether any violations contributed to the accident.
No additional injuries were reported.
Authorities have not released further details but said more information may become available as the investigation continues.
