Fresno, California — A frightening incident unfolded in Fresno, California, where an 8-year-old girl managed to escape an attempted kidnapping in broad daylight, highlighting both the danger and the child’s quick thinking.
According to the Fresno Police Department, the incident happened around 4:38 p.m. on April 22 on Andrews Avenue, near Shields and West Avenues. Officers responded quickly after multiple emergency calls from nearby residents who witnessed the situation.
Investigators say a woman, identified as Tyiesha Davis, allegedly approached the young girl and tried to pull her into a vehicle by grabbing her hair. Despite the sudden and terrifying situation, the child fought back, broke free, and ran to a nearby home where a neighbor immediately brought her inside to safety.
Police say the suspect made disturbing claims during the encounter, allegedly telling the girl she had been “stolen at birth” and that she knew her name. Authorities later confirmed that the suspect has no connection to the child or her family.
When the girl’s parents arrived, they reassured officers that the woman was a stranger. Witnesses in the neighborhood played a key role, calling 911 and helping ensure a rapid response.
One neighbor, Hector Barba, expressed relief after learning the girl was safe, saying the situation could have ended much worse. The community response helped prevent what could have been a tragic outcome.
The suspect was later arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail with bail set at $185,000. Authorities continue to investigate the case, including the suspect’s motive and mental state.
This incident serves as a stark reminder for parents and communities to remain alert. Officials encourage families to educate children about safety, staying aware of surroundings, and seeking help immediately if approached by strangers.
The young girl’s courage and quick reaction likely saved her life, turning a potentially devastating situation into a story of survival.
