He Came to Sell Car Seats on Facebook Marketplace. He Left in a Body Bag After a Fight Over Mercedes vs. BMW

What started as a routine Facebook Marketplace transaction ended in a senseless killing — all because two men could not agree on which luxury car brand was better.

Omar Brogdon, 31, of Michigan has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after shooting and killing 38-year-old Orhan Hosic during what was supposed to be a simple car parts sale.

The two men met on July 6, 2024, at Hosic’s apartment. Hosic had planned to sell two Corvette seats to Brogdon. But the deal quickly took a deadly turn when the conversation shifted from the transaction to a heated debate over whether Mercedes or BMW was the superior car brand. That argument escalated into a physical confrontation — and then Brogdon pulled out a gun.

A jury convicted Brogdon in April on charges of second-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery, and multiple gun charges. The Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the conviction and sentencing.

At his sentencing on May 18, Brogdon offered little comfort to the victim’s family. “It was an unfortunate event,” he said. “I was scared. I was cornered.” Prosecutors and investigators painted a very different picture.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said the evidence against Brogdon was overwhelming — digital records, physical evidence, a witness who spotted his orange Camaro at the scene, and a phone call to the victim’s cell phone that was answered in a Detroit motel where Brogdon had been staying.

The Corvette seats Hosic had planned to sell were found inside Brogdon’s Camaro.

The victim’s stepmother delivered a heartbreaking statement at sentencing, reminding the court of everything Hosic had survived before this moment — childhood cancer, facial disfigurement, and a life full of challenges.

“You shot out the only eye he could see out of,” she told Brogdon. “This is something you will have to live with for the rest of your life.”

Now Brogdon will spend every remaining day of his life behind bars — all over a pointless argument about cars.
