He Couldn't Stop in Time — and the Driver Who Caused It Vanished

SACRAMENTO, CA — A motorcyclist was killed Monday morning after a driver made an illegal U-turn directly in his path on Florin Road — and then sped away from the scene, the California Highway Patrol confirmed.

According to the CHP, the sequence of events began when a vehicle traveling southbound on Power Inn Road turned west onto Florin Road, then made an illegal U-turn using a turnout — cutting back across the lanes of oncoming traffic.

“The motorcycle rider was heading eastbound and simply had no time to stop.”

The motorcyclist, traveling eastbound on Florin Road, had no time to brake. He struck the vehicle on its passenger side and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Instead of stopping to render aid or exchange information, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene southbound on Power Inn Road, leaving behind the victim and a shattered motorcycle.
