Farmington driver charged in deadly crash that killed a mother on her motorcycle — new details released

FARMINGTON, CT — A woman who lost her life in a violent three-vehicle crash on Meadow Road this week has now been identified — and new details about the driver charged in connection with her death are raising serious questions in the community.

Farmington police confirmed Thursday that the motorcyclist killed in Monday’s crash was Ciera Schultz, 39, of Bristol.

Schultz was riding near the intersection of Meadow Road and Plainville Avenue, also known as Route 177, when the collision occurred just before 4 p.m.

What Happened on Meadow Road

According to police, a pickup truck slammed into Schultz’s motorcycle and a school bus in the late afternoon crash.

Schultz suffered fatal injuries at the scene.

The bus driver was not hurt. However, a child who was on the school bus was transported to a hospital for evaluation. Police described those injuries as minor.

Driver Charged With DUI

The pickup truck driver was identified as Gary Berube.

Berube was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs in connection with the crash.

He was released on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Torrington Superior Court on June 25.

Police have not announced any additional charges at this time, but the investigation remains active.

Community Wants Answers

The crash has left many in Farmington and Bristol shaken — a woman is gone, a child was rushed to the hospital, and a driver accused of being impaired walked out on bond days later.

The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Squad is assisting Farmington police as the investigation continues.
