Houston dad of 5 rushed to help his carjacked son — and was shot dead by the suspect

HOUSTON, Texas — A father of five is dead after he rushed to help his son who had just been carjacked at gunpoint — and ended up face to face with the suspect.

Louis Erebia was shot and killed on Saturday. He left behind a wife, five children, and a community that is now demanding answers.

What Happened That Night

Erebia’s son called him in a panic after a gunman stole his car.

Erebia did not hesitate. He tracked down the stolen vehicle and pursued the suspect.

After a short chase and a crash, the alleged carjacker opened fire. Erebia was shot and killed.

A passenger in Erebia’s vehicle was also shot and remains hospitalized.

“This is a sad world that we’re in, and Louis wasn’t going to take these things laying down. When his son called, he sprung into action — as I would,” said community victim advocate April Aguirre.

‘Louis Was Everything to Everyone’

Friends and family gathered to hold photos and share memories of a man they say would do anything for the people he loved.

His sister-in-law, Amber Burrough, spoke about his devotion to his family and his community.

“Louis was everything to everyone,” Burrough said. “We need justice for what happened to Louis. Louis is a good man.”

Those who knew him say his reaction that night was not reckless. It was who he was.

The Suspect Had a Criminal History — and Should Have Been in Jail

London Hogan has been arrested and charged with Erebia’s murder.

But his family and community advocates are raising a painful question: why was Hogan free in the first place?

Court records show Hogan was sentenced to five years’ probation in March 2024 after choking his girlfriend. While on probation, he was arrested in Louisiana for drug possession and accused of planning to distribute drugs inside a correctional facility.

Rather than revoking his probation and sending him to serve out his original five-year sentence, Judge Te’iva Bell gave him just 30 days in jail.

Six months later, Hogan is charged with murder.

“This should have never happened. Let’s be clear — look at the man’s rap sheet,” Burrough said.

Family Calls for Accountability

Erebia’s family says this is not just about one man. It is about a system that failed to protect the community.

“We demand justice. We are a family of first responders, we are law-abiding citizens, and we want the law to serve us. We don’t want it to fail again,” Burrough said.

Hogan denied stealing the vehicle. A judge refused to grant him bail on Monday.

Louis Erebia was a husband, a father, and by every account, a man who showed up when someone needed him. On Saturday night, showing up cost him his life.
