A small West Virginia community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of a 15-year-old girl who died following an ATV crash last week.
The accident occurred on March 6 along Isner Creek Road on private farmland in Elkins. The teen was riding in a Can-Am Defender with three other juveniles when the vehicle crashed. Authorities have stated that no criminal activity is suspected in connection with the incident. The conditions of the other teens involved have not been publicly detailed, though school officials confirmed they sustained serious injuries.
The victim has been identified as Rileigh Wingfield, a sophomore at Elkins High School. Known affectionately as “Ri,” she was remembered by loved ones as someone whose smile and presence could light up any room. Friends and family described her as kind-hearted, joyful, and full of life.
Rileigh was actively involved in her school community. She played softball and participated in Young Life, a youth organization. Outside of school, she cherished time spent with friends and family and had a deep love for the outdoors. Hiking, jeep riding, and caring for children and animals were among the many activities she enjoyed.
In a message to the community, the local school superintendent expressed heartfelt condolences to Rileigh’s family, acknowledging that her loss is deeply felt throughout the entire school district. Counseling and additional support resources have been made available to students and staff as they cope with the tragedy.
Rileigh is survived by her parents and three brothers. As the community comes together in mourning, she is being remembered for the joy she brought to those around her and the lasting impact she made in her short but meaningful life.
