A man was shot and killed early Wednesday morning outside his home in Hialeah, and newly surfaced surveillance footage shows the chilling moments leading up to the attack.
Police said they began receiving emergency calls around 6:18 a.m. reporting multiple gunshots near West 19th Avenue and West 56th Street, close to the entrance of a local apartment complex. Callers told dispatchers they heard as many as 10 shots ring out in rapid succession.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. Investigators located 11 spent shell casings scattered nearby. Aerial footage later showed the victim’s body covered with a yellow tarp as authorities secured the area.
According to investigators, surveillance video shows the suspect walking behind the victim along the sidewalk shortly before the shooting. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Dairon Rosas Delgado, is seen trailing the man before allegedly pulling out a firearm and opening fire. Authorities say the victim was struck multiple times in the torso.
After the shooting, the suspect allegedly walked back into a nearby building before leaving the area in a black SUV with a woman, police said.
Recently obtained 911 recordings reveal the panic that unfolded in the neighborhood. One caller told dispatchers she heard approximately 10 gunshots.
“He just started shooting out of nowhere,” the caller said. “There was a woman screaming. I think he grabbed her.”
Law enforcement later located and arrested Delgado while he was driving near West 4th Avenue and West 18th Street in Hialeah. According to the arrest report, Delgado’s mother told police she witnessed the shooting. Investigators recovered a firearm from a black fanny pack found inside the glove compartment of the vehicle.
Delgado now faces a charge of second-degree murder with a weapon.
While authorities initially withheld the victim’s identity, family members later identified him as Dick Estrada, a husband and father of two. Relatives said he was on his way to work when he was shot.
A woman who identified herself as a relative described the family’s heartbreak, saying Estrada had come to the United States to work and support his loved ones. She explained that his wife became concerned when his car remained parked outside and he failed to answer his phone.
Police have not yet disclosed a possible motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
