A powerful windstorm swept through the Pittsburgh region late Friday night, leaving a trail of destruction and widespread power outages across southwestern Pennsylvania.
The National Weather Service had placed much of the area under a high wind warning for several hours. Wind gusts reached up to 59 mph at both Allegheny County Airport and Pittsburgh International Airport, creating hazardous conditions and causing structural and tree damage throughout the region.
Across Allegheny County, emergency crews reported numerous incidents, including large trees falling onto homes in neighborhoods within Pittsburgh and Green Tree Borough. Streets were littered with debris, and utility crews worked through the night to restore electricity to affected residents.
The impact was not limited to one community. Reports of downed trees, damaged rooftops, and power disruptions surfaced from multiple towns across southwestern Pennsylvania as the strong gusts moved through.
Local authorities urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay clear of any downed power lines. Officials emphasized that keeping roads clear would allow emergency responders and utility workers to operate safely and efficiently as they handled storm-related calls.
Response teams continued their work into early Saturday morning, assessing damage and working to restore normal conditions across the region.
