FOLSOM, California — A Sunday crash near one of Folsom’s busiest corridors left three people hurt, flipped a car onto its roof, set another vehicle on fire, and ignited a grass fire nearby — all within minutes of each other.

The collision happened near Highway 50 and Prairie City Road, drawing a quick response from Metro Fire and the California Highway Patrol.

One Car Was on Fire. Another Was Upside Down.

When fire crews arrived, they found two vehicles in serious condition.

One had flipped completely onto its roof. The person inside could not get out on their own and had to be extricated by emergency crews.

The second vehicle was on fire with two people still inside.

Both scenes required immediate attention, and crews worked to manage multiple emergencies at the same time.

A 5-Year-Old Was Among the Injured

Three people were hurt in total.

The California Highway Patrol confirmed that a 66-year-old driver may have suffered a medical emergency before the crash — potentially causing him to lose control of his vehicle. He was transported with a broken sternum and minor cuts.

A 5-year-old girl was also injured. She reported minor back pain, officials said.

The third person injured was in one of the two affected vehicles, though officials did not provide further details on their condition at the time of the report.

Crews Also Stopped a Grass Fire From Spreading

The crash did not just damage the vehicles involved — it sent flames into the surrounding vegetation.

A small grass fire broke out near the scene as a direct result of the collision. Fire crews acted quickly and extinguished it before it could grow, preventing what could have been a larger threat in the dry conditions common to the area.
