Teen Missing After Entering Frigid Waters of Truckee River Near State Line

A large-scale search operation is ongoing after a 19-year-old man disappeared while swimming in the Truckee River near the California–Nevada border over the weekend.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 3 p.m. Saturday to the Floriston area, located roughly 13 miles east of Truckee, following reports that the young man went underwater and failed to resurface. Authorities confirmed he had been visiting the river with friends and was not a local resident.

Search efforts continued into Sunday, with no sign of the missing swimmer. Multiple rescue units have been deployed, including K-9 teams, aerial drones, helicopters, swift-water rescue personnel, and ground crews combing the surrounding terrain.

Officials warned that the river remains extremely dangerous due to icy conditions. Water temperatures are reported to be around 44 degrees, fueled by snowmelt runoff and intensified by strong currents.

Authorities continue to urge the public to avoid entering the river, emphasizing that conditions are unsafe for swimming.
