UTICA, N.Y. — A 52-year-old Utica resident is facing burglary and petit larceny charges following an alleged retail theft incident at a store in New Hartford.
Authorities say the investigation began after merchandise valued at more than $500 was reported stolen on February 21 from the Walmart located on Commercial Drive in New Hartford. According to police, the suspect was seen leaving the store with unpaid items before fleeing the scene.
Following a review of evidence and further investigation, law enforcement identified Nathaniel Walker as the individual involved. Officials also stated that Walker had previously been barred from entering the store due to an earlier incident. Because of that prior ban, the alleged unlawful entry into the store led to a burglary charge in addition to petit larceny.
An arrest warrant was subsequently issued. The United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, working in coordination with local and state agencies, located and apprehended Walker on March 23.
Walker was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Oneida County Jail. He is currently being held in pre-arraignment detention as he awaits further court proceedings.
Burglary charges in New York can carry serious legal consequences, particularly when an individual is accused of entering a premises unlawfully with the intent to commit a crime. The case will proceed through the judicial system, where the charges will be formally addressed in court.
