A late-night gathering in New River, Arizona, turned tragic early Sunday morning when a 20-year-old man was fatally shot during a party, leaving the community in shock and authorities searching for answers.

According to officials from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunfire at a home near 7th Avenue and New River Road just before 2:30 a.m. What they encountered was an active party scene — but the situation quickly escalated.

While deputies were on-site assessing the situation, more gunshots were suddenly heard from inside the house. Panic erupted as multiple partygoers rushed out of the home in fear, creating chaos at the scene.

Amid the confusion, officers discovered that one individual had been struck by gunfire. Deputies immediately began providing medical aid while also attempting to control the situation and detain those fleeing.

Despite their efforts, the victim — identified only as a 20-year-old man — later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities have now classified the incident as a homicide. As of now, no suspects have been taken into custody, and investigators are working to piece together what led to the deadly shooting.

Officials are urging anyone with information to come forward, as even small details could be critical in solving the case.

This incident has raised concerns about safety at large gatherings and the unpredictable nature of such situations when they spiral out of control.

The investigation remains ongoing.
