A shocking courtroom moment unfolded in Hawaii as the son of a doctor accused of trying to kill his wife revealed deeply disturbing details about what his father allegedly said after the incident.
Son’s Testimony Reveals Alleged Confession
Nineteen-year-old Emile Konig testified that his father, Gerhardt Konig, made a chilling confession during a FaceTime call on March 24, 2025 — the same day authorities say the attack happened.
According to Emile, his father admitted he had tried to kill his wife, Arielle Konig, during a hike and believed she had been unfaithful. He also told his son something even more alarming — that he didn’t plan to return home.
Emile told the court that his father said he intended to end his own life by jumping off a cliff. The son said he tried to stop him and urged him not to do it.
What Prosecutors Claim Happened
Prosecutors allege that the incident took place on the scenic Pali Puka Trail near Honolulu, where the couple had gone for Arielle’s birthday.
They claim Gerhardt Konig:
- Lured his wife to a dangerous cliffside spot
- Tried to push her off the edge
- Attacked her with a syringe
- Then repeatedly hit her head with a rock
The prosecution described the attack as deliberate and violent, arguing it was an attempt to kill.
Wife’s Emotional Testimony
Arielle Konig previously told the court that the situation turned terrifying when her husband asked her to take a photo near the cliff.
Feeling unsafe, she tried to move away — but instead, she says, he grabbed her and pushed her toward the edge.
She described how she fought for her life:
- Clinging to trees and shrubs to avoid falling
- Being pinned to the ground
- Seeing a syringe in his hand
- Hearing him say, “Nobody’s coming to save you”
After knocking the syringe away, she said he picked up a rock and struck her multiple times in the head.
Her survival came down to a critical moment — another hiker nearby heard her screams and called for help, allowing her to escape.
Defense Claims Self-Defense
Gerhardt Konig, a 47-year-old anesthesiologist, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree attempted murder.
His defense team argues a completely different version of events. They claim he acted in self-defense after a physical confrontation with his wife and used the rock only to protect himself.
However, during the FaceTime call described by his son, there was no mention of self-defense.
Background: Strained Relationship
The court also heard that the couple had been going through relationship issues before the incident.
Arielle admitted to having an emotional affair with a co-worker, which had created tension in their marriage. She said they had been attending counseling and were trying to repair their relationship.
A Case That Raises Questions
This case has drawn widespread attention due to its dramatic details — a birthday hike turned violent, a life-threatening attack, and a son’s testimony that could play a key role in the trial’s outcome.
With conflicting accounts from both sides, the court now faces the difficult task of determining what truly happened on that remote hiking trail.
