A quiet residential area in South San Francisco was shaken early April 1 after gunfire struck an apartment building, leaving residents frightened but fortunately unharmed.
According to police, officers responded to reports of shots fired at an apartment complex on the 300 block of Susie Way. Investigators say the suspect had been involved in a dispute with a resident the day before and returned to the location just after 2 a.m., escalating the situation.
Authorities identified the suspect as 21-year-old Adan Alvarado Tafolla from Bay Point. Police allege that Tafolla first burglarized a vehicle before firing into the apartment building. At the time of the shooting, 10 people were inside the residence, including a child. Miraculously, no injuries were reported.
After the incident, the suspect fled the scene. Surveillance footage later helped track his movements across the East Bay area. With assistance from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office air support unit, authorities followed the suspect as he attempted to evade capture by switching vehicles and hiding at a rural property.
Tafolla was eventually arrested in Brentwood. Police say they recovered evidence linking him directly to the shooting.
He has since been booked into the San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and burglary.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the full sequence of events.
