SHREVEPORT, La. – A Shreveport woman with a history of theft-related offenses was taken into custody Sunday afternoon following an alleged shoplifting incident at a local Walmart store. Authorities say the suspect was accompanied by her young child at the time of the incident.
Police responded shortly after 4 p.m. to the Walmart located at 1645 East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop after receiving a call from the store’s Asset Protection team. According to officials, a loss prevention employee reported observing the woman concealing merchandise while inside the store.
Officers intercepted the suspect as she attempted to leave the store without paying for several items totaling $228.88. During the investigation, authorities confirmed that the woman had previously been issued a lifetime trespass notice from Walmart in October 2022, prohibiting her from entering company properties. Records further indicated she has at least two prior convictions related to theft.
While conducting the arrest, officers reportedly discovered suspected marijuana in her possession. Before being transported to jail, she was allowed to release her personal belongings and arrange for her 7-year-old daughter to be picked up by a friend.
The Shreveport Police Department has charged the woman with habitual offender – theft, criminal trespass, possession of marijuana, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Authorities remind residents that repeat offenses can lead to enhanced penalties under Louisiana law. The case remains under review as it proceeds through the legal system. Anyone with additional information related to this incident is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
