JACKSON, Miss. — Authorities in Jackson are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 24-year-old man early Sunday morning.
According to police, officers assigned to Precinct Four were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. on March 22 to the 6300 block of Ridgewood Road following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers secured the area and requested additional investigative support.
The department’s Robbery Homicide Unit and Mobile Crime Unit responded to process the scene and begin gathering evidence. Preliminary findings indicate that the victim, identified as Joshua Butler, was shot after an altercation. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the confrontation and what events unfolded immediately prior to the shooting.
Butler was transported to a nearby hospital by private vehicle. Despite medical efforts, he later died from his injuries.
Police confirmed that this case marks the city’s 16th homicide of the year. Detectives are continuing to interview witnesses, review surveillance footage from the surrounding area, and analyze physical evidence collected at the scene.
Authorities have not released information regarding potential suspects or arrests at this time. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say additional details will be made public as they become available.
