Body Recovered After Man Falls from Railroad Bridge into Merrimack River in New Hampshire

Authorities in Hooksett recovered the body of a 25-year-old man Sunday morning after he is believed to have accidentally fallen from a railroad bridge into the Merrimack River.

According to New Hampshire State Police, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. Saturday near Riverside Street. The victim, identified as Jeremiah Willey, was reportedly walking along the bridge when he fell into the water below.

A witness at the scene told police they saw Willey struggling to stay afloat before he disappeared beneath the surface. Emergency teams quickly responded, launching an extensive search effort.

Officials from New Hampshire Fish and Game Department deployed boats equipped with side-scan sonar, while dive teams entered the river to search underwater. Despite several hours of effort, the search was suspended late Saturday due to limited visibility and safety concerns.

Crews resumed operations early Sunday morning. At approximately 9:15 a.m., Willey’s body was located in the river. Authorities have not released further details about the exact location or circumstances surrounding the fall.

Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including local police and fire departments, along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

State police confirmed that the death is not considered suspicious at this time, though an investigation remains ongoing.
