A tragic accident in Webster has left a community grieving after 10-year-old Marleigh Guevara was struck and killed by a driver over the weekend.
According to local police, the crash happened on School Street shortly before 1 p.m. on Saturday. A passerby immediately tried to save the child using CPR with an automated external defibrillator before first responders arrived. Despite those efforts, Marleigh later died at the hospital.
On Monday night, dozens of residents gathered near her home for a candlelight vigil, holding candles, sharing memories, and supporting one another through the loss. Family, friends, and neighbors described Marleigh as a joyful and loving child who brought light to everyone around her.
Her school, Park Avenue Elementary, also mourned the loss, offering grief counseling to students and staff. School officials called her a bright, curious student with a kind heart.
The child’s mother shared an emotional message, remembering her daughter as someone rare and deeply loved, not just by family but by everyone who knew her.
Police confirmed the driver, a 35-year-old woman from Southbridge, is cooperating. Authorities stated there were no signs of intoxication, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Officials described the incident as one of the most difficult situations officers face, especially involving children.
As the investigation continues, the community is focused on honoring Marleigh’s memory and supporting her grieving family.
