Los Angeles, California — A quiet neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills was shaken Thursday night after a violent home invasion left an elderly woman injured, prompting an ongoing search for multiple suspects.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a residence in the 8500 block of Lookout Mountain Avenue, near Wonderland Avenue Elementary School, just before 8:30 p.m. following reports of an assault inside the home.
What Happened
Police say a woman in her 70s was inside her home when at least two suspects forcibly entered the property. During the break-in, the intruders assaulted and strangled her. Despite the severity of the attack, she survived and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was later treated and released.
Authorities confirmed the suspects stole cash and jewelry before fleeing the scene.
Suspects and Escape
Investigators described the suspects as at least two men wearing hoodies and masks. After the crime, they reportedly escaped in a white Honda Accord. No arrests have been made so far, and police continue to search for those involved.
A Targeted Location?
Neighbors expressed concern about the area’s vulnerability. One resident described the street as dark, quiet, and isolated — factors that may have made the home an easier target.
“It’s a dead-end street with very little lighting and not many people around,” a neighbor shared. “That kind of setting can attract break-ins.”
Personal Loss Deepens the Impact
Property records indicate the home belongs to Margaux Mirkin, whose family has already faced tragedy in recent years. Neighbors noted that some of the stolen jewelry held emotional value, reportedly gifted by her late husband before his passing in a house fire less than two years ago.
Investigation Ongoing
The case has now been taken over by the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division, signaling the seriousness of the incident. Authorities are reviewing evidence and working to identify the suspects.
The attack comes amid a recent rise in reported break-ins across Los Angeles, particularly in nearby areas like the San Fernando Valley. City officials have already increased patrols in response, but incidents like this highlight ongoing safety concerns for residents.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
