A Michigan couple is facing serious criminal charges after their 2-month-old son was found with life-altering injuries that prosecutors say were caused by intentional abuse.
Who Are the Accused?
Troy Michael Holt, 30, and Alyssa Nicole Holt, 27, of Lapeer County, have each been charged with:
- First-degree child abuse
- Torture
Troy Holt faces an additional count of third-degree child abuse.
What Happened?
In November 2025, detectives responded to a home in Attica Township — about 55 miles north of Detroit — after a 2-month-old boy was found lethargic and unresponsive.
The infant was rushed to McLaren Lapeer Regional Hospital, then transferred to Hurley Medical Center, and finally to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor.
How Serious Are the Injuries?
Doctors discovered:
- Brain bleed (subdural hemorrhage)
- Numerous broken ribs
- Broken shoulder blade
- Fractured forearm
- Retinal hemorrhaging
Lapeer County Prosecutor John Miller called it one of the most disturbing cases he has encountered.
“He is going to suffer from these injuries for the rest of his life,” Miller said.
What Did the Parents Say?
When investigators questioned the couple, they claimed the injuries were caused by accidents inside the home. However, medical experts determined the trauma was consistent with intentional abuse, leading to arrest warrants being issued.
Where Is the Baby Now?
Child protective authorities moved early to restrict the couple’s parental rights. The child is now living safely with a foster family.
Where Are the Parents Now?
- Alyssa Holt was arrested May 1 at a Davison Township residence
- Troy Holt was arrested the same day at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, where he was attending Army Reserve training
Both are being held in Lapeer County Jail on $200,000 bond each. Their next court appearance is scheduled for May 8.
