A 19-year-old Idaho man is out on bond after police said he beat a father so severely that the man was left unconscious on the street with a brain bleed.
What Happened?
On April 25, Thomas Andrew Larsen was driving in Blackfoot, Idaho, when his car nearly hit a woman backing out of her driveway.
The woman’s father saw what happened, got into his truck and followed Larsen to confront him.
It Escalated Quickly
The father caught up to Larsen and told him he “about hit my daughter — learn how to drive.”
What happened next put the father in the hospital.
The Attack
According to court documents, two men got out of Larsen’s car. After a brief argument, the father said he suddenly found himself picking himself up off the ground — with no memory of what hit him.
Police found a large amount of blood on the pavement at the scene.
The Injuries
At the hospital, doctors diagnosed the victim with:
- A broken nose
- A 9 mm brain bleed
- Loss of consciousness
The man was transferred to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after the first hospital had difficulty keeping him stable. His current condition is unknown.
What Larsen Told Police
Larsen admitted to brake-checking the father while driving. He told police the man hit him first and that he retaliated in self-defense — hitting him twice in the face, causing him to fall.
However, Larsen also admitted to hitting the man three more times in the face while he was already on the ground.
Police told Larsen that continuing to beat someone already down would weaken any self-defense claim.
Where the Case Stands
- Larsen was charged with aggravated battery
- He posted $10,000 bond on April 27
- His next court date is May 21
