Florida Woman's Instagram Fling Turned Into a Nightmare — Now He's in Handcuffs

What started as a casual Instagram conversation quickly became one Florida woman’s worst experience — and it ended with a man in handcuffs in Pennsylvania.

How It Started

The Winter Haven, Florida woman met Hector Manuel Cruz, 29, on Instagram about a month before the threats began. Their relationship was described as romantic — they exchanged messages daily, talked about work and life, and even shared private photos.

Cruz lived in Pennsylvania. Everything happened online.

When Things Turned Dangerous

Police say Cruz became obsessively jealous whenever the woman did not respond to his messages quickly enough. He accused her of talking to other men and began making threatening phone calls.

According to the Winter Haven Public Safety Department, Cruz told her directly:

“I hate cheaters and if you cheat on me, I’ll shoot you.”

He Took It Further

When the woman tried to end things, Cruz allegedly:

  • Sent her private nude photos to her workplace supervisor
  • Sent threatening messages to the supervisor and her husband
  • Continued harassing her using different phone numbers and social media accounts
  • Told her he was planning to travel to Florida

He Was Tracked Down

Police issued a warrant for Cruz’s arrest. Officers from the Girard Borough Police Department in Pennsylvania located him and took him into custody. He is expected to be extradited to Florida in the coming days.

Charges Against Him

Cruz now faces four serious charges:

  • Written threats to kill
  • Misuse of a two-way communication device
  • Sexual cyber harassment
  • Harassing phone calls

What This Means for You

This case is a reminder that online relationships — even casual ones — can turn dangerous fast. If someone you met online is making threats, contacting your workplace or sending harassing messages, contact local police immediately.
