A 44-year-old Pennsylvania woman who lived with multiple sclerosis died last year under conditions a coroner described as deplorable — and her death has now been ruled a homicide.
Who Was She?
Elizabeth Fike, 44, of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, died on Oct. 16, 2025, at her home. She lived with her boyfriend, Tim Childs, who also served as her caregiver.
What Did the Coroner Find?
Fayette County Coroner Dr. Bob Baker responded to the home and found Fike surrounded by filth. His investigation determined she had not been out of her bed for over three months before her death.
Baker ruled her cause of death as neglect and her manner of death as homicide.
Her Medical Condition at Time of Death
According to the coroner, Fike had developed:
- A Stage IV bedsore — the most severe level
- Urosepsis — a life-threatening condition caused when a urinary tract infection spreads to the bloodstream
What Was Found Inside the Home?
Baker said a new hospital bed, wheelchair, and commode were all found inside the home — but none had been used. A bedpan containing three-week-old water was found next to a bed covered in filth.
What Did the Boyfriend Say?
Childs told local media he has cerebral palsy and struggled to provide care after Fike ran out of her medications.
“I did the best of my ability,” Childs said, adding that her medications had been on order but had not yet arrived.
Has Anyone Been Charged?
As of the coroner’s ruling, no charges have been filed against Childs or anyone else.
The case remains under investigation.
