Florida Couple Attacks Mom in Parking Lot After Disagreement Over Child Discipline, Police Say

A Florida couple is facing battery charges after allegedly attacking a mother in a Davie parking lot Wednesday evening — a confrontation that began over parenting but turned violent within minutes.

What Happened

Davie Police responded to a battery call at around 5:37 p.m. on South University Drive. The victim told officers a man and woman had approached her after she disciplined her young son in the parking lot.

How It Started

The man, identified as Terry Williams, approached the mother and claimed he worked for the Department of Children and Families. He told her she could not discipline her child that way. The mother told him to leave. He initially walked away.

His wife, Mary Williams, then approached the mother aggressively to continue the discussion. When the mother tried to put her son in her car and leave, Mary stepped in front of the vehicle and blocked her.

When It Turned Violent

A physical struggle followed. According to police:

  • Mary allegedly scratched and choked the mother
  • The victim said she struggled to breathe and feared she would pass out
  • Terry returned and grabbed the mother by her shirt and hair
  • Together, the couple tore the victim’s shirt completely off
  • Mary then entered the victim’s car, took her keys and refused to let her leave

A witness told police the mother was not fighting back — she was simply trying to get away.

The Injuries

Officers noted scratch marks on the victim’s throat consistent with choking. She also suffered a cut to her lower lip.

What Police Found Out

Investigators later confirmed Mary Williams did not work for DCF. Whether Terry Williams had any actual affiliation with the agency was not confirmed in the report.

The Charges

  • Mary Williams: Battery resulting in bodily harm + burglary of a conveyance
  • Terry Williams: Battery

Both were released on bond as of Friday. Their court date has not been announced.
