NASHVILLE, Tennessee — If you thought this week was going to stay mild, think again.

Middle Tennessee is about to experience one of its biggest warmups of the season, with temperatures set to surge nearly 12 degrees in just two days — and the hottest stretch still ahead.

Here is a full breakdown of what to expect across the Nashville metro area through May 20.

Wednesday brings comfort before the heat arrives

Wednesday starts the week on a pleasant note with sunny skies and a high near 82 degrees.

Southwest winds could gust up to 20 mph during the afternoon, so expect a breezy feel. By Wednesday night, skies clear out and temperatures drop to a comfortable low near 51 degrees.

Enjoy it — conditions this comfortable will not last long.

Thursday is the last cool day of the stretch

Thursday stays sunny with a high near 76 degrees and light north winds across Middle Tennessee.

Overnight Thursday into Friday, lows once again settle near 51 degrees under mostly clear skies.

This is the coolest day of the entire 7-day period, so if you have outdoor plans, Thursday is your best bet.

Friday marks the turn toward summer heat

Temperatures rebound quickly on Friday as highs climb back into the low 80s under mostly sunny skies.

A slight chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms develops late Friday into early Saturday as humidity begins building across the region. Keep an eye on the forecast if you have early Saturday morning plans outdoors.

Weekend feels like full midsummer in Nashville

Saturday and Sunday are going to feel like July, not May.

Highs are expected to reach near 90 degrees Saturday and around 91 degrees Sunday under mostly sunny skies. Warm overnight lows in the upper 60s will make for muggy nights across the Nashville area.

Stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during peak afternoon heat, and check on elderly neighbors and family members who may not have reliable air conditioning.

Monday could be the hottest day of 2025 so far

The peak of the heat arrives Monday when temperatures could approach 94 degrees across Nashville.

That level of heat in mid-May is significant. If those numbers verify, it could rank among the hottest May days in recent memory for Middle Tennessee.

Storms possible again by Tuesday

The heat does not last forever. By Tuesday, a more active weather pattern returns to the region with additional scattered showers and thunderstorms possible.

Exact timing and coverage will come into clearer focus as the week progresses, so check back with local forecasts as Tuesday approaches.
