A Columbus, Ohio man was arrested after his own father called 911, telling dispatchers he believed his son had killed someone and hidden the body on the side of their house.
Markus Say Yeanay, 28, now faces one count each of murder and tampering with evidence in the death of his neighbor, 39-year-old Xavier Reynolds.
How the body was found
Officers responded to the 2400 block of Brocton Court just before 10 p.m. Monday following the father’s call. They discovered Reynolds’ body wrapped in a rug, covered with a tarp, and buried under a pile of mulch in an apparent attempt to conceal the remains.
An autopsy later confirmed Reynolds died from blunt force trauma to the head.
What the father told police
According to a probable cause affidavit, Yeanay’s father said he discovered the body himself and directly confronted his son. Yeanay reportedly began crying and fled on foot.
He was tracked down and arrested by a SWAT team the following morning.
Inside the home, detectives found a large amount of blood, along with clothing and potential weapons recovered from nearby trash cans. The father also told investigators his son had a history of anger issues.
Neighborhood reacts
Residents of the Brittany Hills neighborhood described the area as typically quiet and tight-knit.
“This was a real eye-opener because nothing ever happens in our neighborhood,” resident Zamya Adams said. “Everybody knows everybody. We’ve been checking on our elderly people and making sure it’s not their house that has been harmed.”
A prior conviction
This is not Yeanay’s first homicide charge. Indiana court records show he previously served nine years in prison after being convicted in the 2016 killing of his uncle.
Yeanay is currently held at the James A. Karnes Correctional Center on a $1 million bond set by a Franklin County Municipal Court judge.
