CHICAGO, Illinois — A 26-year-old man is fighting for his life after he was shot in the face while driving through a Southwest Side neighborhood late Sunday night.

The shooting happened at 10:20 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Western Avenue in the Ashburn community.

According to Chicago police, the man was driving south in a gray SUV when he suddenly heard gunshots and felt pain. He quickly realized he had been struck in the face.

The victim was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in critical condition.

No Arrests Made, Investigation Underway

As of Monday morning, no one was in custody in connection with the shooting.

Wentworth Area detectives have taken over the investigation, but police have not yet released information about a suspect or what may have led to the shooting.

It remains unclear whether the man was targeted or caught in random gunfire while behind the wheel.
