He Shot His Uncle Over One Insult — Then Hid the Body in a Recycling Bin for 9 Days

A 26-year-old Texas man allegedly shot his uncle five times over a single comment — then stored the body in a backyard recycling bin for over a week.

San Antonio police arrested Aquiminee La Roy Crawford after a shocking discovery at a home on Sterling Street in east San Antonio. Officers responding to a 911 call — made by Crawford himself — found a dead man stuffed inside a recycling bin in the backyard.

What happened?

According to police, Crawford retrieved a handgun from his bedroom on or around May 9 and shot his uncle, Derrick Crawford, 52, five times inside the living room. At least two shots struck the victim in the chest and head.

Crawford later admitted to detectives that his uncle had called him a derogatory name, which caused him to “black out” and open fire. He also told police he was angry that his uncle regularly borrowed most of his money.

How was the body found?

After the shooting, Crawford allegedly wrapped his uncle’s body in black garbage bags and placed it in the backyard recycling bin — where it remained for over nine days.

When officers arrived, they noticed a “foul odor” coming from the bin. After tipping it over, a human hand became visible. Inside, they found the victim’s body with multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators also found blood spatter on the living room walls, ceiling, and a soaked couch cushion — confirming the location of the shooting.

Family had no idea

The victim’s mother, who also lives in the home, told police she had no knowledge of the murder. She said the family had been searching for Derrick Crawford for nearly a week.

Crawford was initially booked on charges of abuse of a corpse before upgraded murder charges were filed. He remains held at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.
