MOORHEAD, Minnesota — If you have ever had a favorite restaurant close without warning, you know exactly how Mango’s regulars are feeling right now.
Mango’s Mexican and American Grill, a beloved spot in Moorhead, announced its closure earlier this week. Sunday, May 25, is the final day of service — and customers are not wasting any time saying goodbye.
Loyal Customers Are Coming From Both States
Word spread fast. Diners from across the Minnesota-North Dakota border are making the trip to get one last plate of their favorites before the doors close for good.
Cassandra Miller was already planning to be in town when she heard the news — and made sure to stop in.
“I was glad I was going to be in town so I could stop in,” she said. “I needed my Mango’s fix.”
She said the restaurant has built a loyal following on both sides of the Red River, and she expects the final days to draw a crowd.
“They have a huge following from both Minnesota and North Dakota, so it’ll probably be very packed here,” Miller said. “It will be a great sendoff for them.”
Surprise and Sadness Over the Quick Timeline
Not everyone saw this coming so fast.
Her husband, John Miller, said he was caught off guard by how quickly the closure is moving.
“I was a little surprised that they didn’t take very long to close down,” he said. “But it’s probably for good reason.”
Like many regulars, he is holding out hope that the story is not over.
“Hope you guys open up somewhere else so we can enjoy your food,” John Miller said.
Customer Donna Miller also stopped by to get one last order of her favorite — the shrimp.
Owners Invite Everyone to Stop By Before Sunday
The owners are not available for comment this week, but they have opened the doors and are welcoming customers to come in and enjoy the food while they still can.
No reason for the closure has been given, and no announcement about a future location has been made.
A Community Saying Goodbye
What is clear from the reaction is just how much Mango’s meant to this community.
Restaurants like this one — the kind where staff know your order and customers drive across state lines to eat — do not come around often.
If you have not stopped in yet, Sunday is your last chance.
