A Patient Called 911 — Then Stole the Ambulance and Led Police on a Wild Chase

A medical emergency in western Pennsylvania took a bizarre turn Wednesday night when the patient being treated allegedly hijacked the ambulance and led state troopers on a chase through Beaver County.

It ended in a GetGo parking lot. The ambulance did not.

Justin Corrie was taken into custody in Center Township after troopers managed to bring the stolen vehicle to a controlled stop on Route 18, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The incident began around 8 p.m. on Midland-Beaver Road in Industry Borough. Corrie had been a patient on an active medical call when he allegedly climbed behind the wheel and drove off — leaving the responding crew behind and triggering a police pursuit.

During the chase, troopers say Corrie failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens before they were finally able to stop the ambulance without a crash.

Corrie now faces multiple charges including fleeing a police officer, theft, reckless driving, and speeding, among others.

No injuries were reported in connection with the theft or the chase.
