Baby Jesus, Lamb Stolen From Nativity Scene Outside Vermont Business; Police Seek Public’s Help

MARSHFIELD, Vt. — Police in central Vermont are investigating the theft of religious statues taken from a nativity scene displayed outside a local business earlier this month.

According to Vermont State Police, a Baby Jesus figure and a lamb statue were stolen from a nativity scene located along Cabot Road in the town of Marshfield. Investigators believe the theft occurred sometime between Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, 2026.

The nativity display had been set up outside the business as part of a seasonal decoration and community tradition. Authorities say the removal of the figures was not authorized, prompting a theft investigation once the items were discovered missing.

Troopers have not released a description of any suspects or vehicles connected to the incident, and it is unclear at this time whether the theft was targeted or opportunistic. Police are reviewing the timeline and speaking with nearby residents and businesses to determine whether anyone may have witnessed suspicious activity during the overnight hours when the theft is believed to have taken place.

Vermont State Police are asking anyone who may have seen unusual behavior in the area of Cabot Road between Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, or who may have information about the missing statues, to come forward. Tips can be provided by calling state police at 802-229-9191.

Authorities also note that anonymous tips can be submitted online or by texting the keyword VTIPS to 274637. Investigators say even small details could help identify those responsible and recover the stolen items.

The investigation remains ongoing.
