Elko County, Nevada – A man has been taken into custody following a vehicle theft report and subsequent weapons investigation that unfolded over two days in Elko County. Authorities say the case involved a reported stolen vehicle, a possible firearm, and coordination between county deputies and city police.
The arrest follows an investigation that began on February 10 and concluded the next day with the recovery of a firearm and multiple felony charges.
Report of Stolen Vehicle in Spring Creek
According to law enforcement officials, deputies with the Elko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Sun Mountain Lane in Spring Creek on February 10 after receiving a report regarding a vehicle that had not been returned.
The vehicle owner informed deputies that a man identified as Tacuma Brown had failed to return the vehicle as agreed. Based on the circumstances described by the complainant, the owner requested that the vehicle be officially reported as stolen.
During the initial stages of the investigation, deputies were also informed that Brown may have been in possession of a firearm, raising additional safety concerns.
Vehicle Located by Elko Police
Later that evening, officers with the Elko Police Department located the reportedly stolen vehicle traveling on Idaho Street. Officers followed the vehicle until it reached Commercial Street, where it was stopped.
Authorities reported that Brown was found inside the vehicle along with two other individuals. Law enforcement officers conducted interviews at the scene as part of their ongoing investigation.
During questioning, deputies learned that the firearm previously reported to be inside the vehicle had allegedly been removed and stored at a separate residence located on Bullion Road.
Search Warrant Executed
On February 11, deputies obtained and executed a search warrant at the Bullion Road residence where the firearm was believed to be located. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the firearm was successfully recovered during the search.
Investigators did not release details about the type of firearm recovered but confirmed that it was secured as evidence in the case.
Charges Filed Against Suspect
Following the investigation and recovery of the firearm, Brown was arrested and booked on multiple charges. These include:
- Grand larceny of a vehicle
- Unlawful taking of a motor vehicle
- Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person
