A Florida mother has been arrested and charged with manslaughter months after her toddler son was struck and killed by a pickup truck outside their home.
Alejandra Segundo Cruz, 32, was taken into custody Thursday in connection with the October 2025 death of her 2-year-old son, Damian Alexander Segundo Cruz.
What Happened
The incident took place on Oct. 29, 2025, in the West Lealman area near St. Petersburg, Florida.
Authorities say Cruz left Damian and his siblings playing unattended in the front yard — just feet from the road.
Damian wandered into the street and was struck by a Ford F-450 pickup truck driven by a 34-year-old man.
The driver told police he never saw the boy due to his small size. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No charges were filed against him.
Emergency responders arrived quickly but were unable to save the child. Damian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Charges
Cruz now faces two serious charges — aggravated manslaughter of a child and child neglect resulting in great bodily harm.
Investigators spent several months reviewing witness statements and evidence before filing charges.
Currently in Jail
Cruz is being held at Pinellas County Jail without bond. She made her first court appearance Friday.
The case remains active as legal proceedings continue.
