Jurupa Valley, California: Quick action by Riverside County firefighters and a sheriff’s deputy saved four cats from a devastating apartment fire that tore through a residential building in Jurupa Valley.
Fire crews responded to the blaze at an apartment complex on the 3000 block of Emma Street, where flames caused extensive damage to multiple units. While searching the smoke-filled building, responders located four cats trapped inside a heavily damaged apartment. Three of the animals were found unconscious and not breathing.
Firefighters immediately carried the cats outside and began lifesaving efforts. First responders performed CPR and provided rescue breathing while additional crews brought oxygen tanks to assist. With fresh oxygen administered, the cats slowly began to respond—opening their eyes and regaining consciousness one after another.
After receiving oxygen and water from the responders, the animals gradually perked up and were able to move around on their own.
The fire was brought under control within approximately an hour. Authorities reported that one individual sustained minor injuries but declined transportation to a hospital.
The blaze destroyed nine apartment units and displaced 14 residents. Relief assistance has been arranged for those affected, and Animal Control officials were called to ensure the rescued cats receive further medical evaluation and care.
The incident highlights the swift coordination and dedication of emergency crews who worked not only to protect residents but also to save the lives of vulnerable pets caught in the fire.
